The Pan-American Highway runs from the Arctic Ocean to Tierra del Fuego. Longest Journey asks you to drive the whole thing — 24,489 km, 89 towns, 14 countries — in real time. This is not a racing game. It is a trip. PLAN EVERY TANK Your car carries 600 km of range. The towns are where they really are, and the distances between them are the real road distances. Some stretches of Patagonia and the Sonoran Desert will make you think hard about whether to stop early or push on. Run dry between towns and a truck tows you back to the last fuel station you stood at. SLEEP, OR PAY FOR IT Fourteen hours at the wheel is all you get. Not every town has a bed, so you are constantly weighing a short day against a long one. Fall asleep driving and you wake up at the last checkpoint with the miles to do again. Check into a hotel and your driver sleeps for eight hours — in real time. You sleep when your driver sleeps. REAL TIME, REALLY One hundred kilometres takes one hour. The car keeps driving while the app is closed, while you are at work, while you are asleep. Open it to find yourself somewhere new. The full journey is around 325 hours of driving. Nobody finishes this in an afternoon. THE DARIÉN GAP There is no road between Panama and Colombia. There never has been. The highway simply stops at the end of the Darién, and like every real overlander, you put the car on a boat and go around.
